PCPh - Precipitating Clouds from Cloud Physical Properties

CRPh product, which is available in the NWCSAF software package from version 2013, estimates the probability of precipitation (PoP) occurrence, being  PoP  the instantaneous probability that a rain rate greater than or equal to 0.2 mm/h occurs at the pixel level.

For this estimation Cloud Water Path (CWP) information is used. CWP is computed using Effective Radius (Reff) and Cloud Optical Thickness (COT) through the following formula:
